The Challenge

NFL teams are widely recognised as the most forward-thinking in world sport. Today’s digital media landscape means data-rich, interactive live sports content is crucial for teams like the LA Rams for their O&O platforms and in-stadium. 

  • Deloitte reports that 58% of fans at live sporting events want the same access to data and replays as they get at home 
  • 68% of fans view game and player information on their smartphone which watching live games, according to the Capgemini Research Institute

After opening SoFi Stadium, one of the most impressive sports stadiums in the world, the LA Rams knew it needed to deliver the data-rich live sports experiences that NFL fans expect. The Rams set out to make the SoFi Stadium experience the best in the world, bringing key sponsor Verizon on the journey. 

The Solution

The LA Rams began setting a new standard for fans experiences in the stadium when leveraging the GeniusIQ data and AI platform to deliver immersive, data-driven augmented highlights on SoFi Stadium’s iconic Infinity Screen for every home game  

The augmented highlights harness official NFL Next Gen Stats (NGS) data to generate player locators, speeds, QB time to throw, and a complete minimap of all 22 players on key replays, sponsored by Verizon. 

GeniusIQ, our next-generation platform, applies powerful machine learning and AI to translate huge volumes of NGS data into a semantic understanding of football. A real-time augmentation pipeline takes these insights to trigger first-of-their-kind branded logo placements for Verizon, in the most exciting moments.
