As an entry level position, it’s the perfect opportunity to gain work experience or develop a career in a new field, while also having the luxury of flexible hours to combine with other work, hobbies or studies.
Sports Event Analysts are a vital element of our Live Data operations team. Essentially, the role involves monitoring and collecting data from live sports events around the world – perfect for someone with a passion for sports and technology.
The Genius offices in Sofia are home to our Live Data department and the very best in Sports Event Analysts. It’s a dynamic office, with a major focus on team collaboration and a place where people love coming to work. Ilia Peev has been working as a part-time Sports Event Analyst for just over 15 months and shared his experience with us.
How did you ‘Discover your Genius’?
“I started at Genius as a Sports Event Analyst in March 2023. My main focus is covering football matches across the world,” explained Illia.
Like many of our Sports Event Analysts he heard about the role through a family member.
“I have a brother who also works for Genius and told me to apply for the job. I’m in my final year at university studying economics so it’s the perfect scenario for me to earn extra money while studying.”
The flexibility to work evenings and weekends is just one of the many benefits that attracted Ilia to the role.
“Of course, one major attraction is that I love watching sports and particularly football. The job itself is also a perfect starting point to grow your professional career. The flexible hours allow me to gain experience and develop my skills while also affording me time to go to study and pursue my academic aspirations. It also helps that the office in Sofia is the perfect place for young people to try something new in their career.”

What does a typical shift look like as a Sports Event Analyst?
Depending on the coverage on any given evening or weekend it can change, but the beauty of the role is that no two days are the same.
“The duration of shifts can range depending on the content we have available for the day.
“First, we log in, then prepare for the game and check all our technical inputs are working correctly during the match. After the games finish you fill in a report and have time to check-in with your supervisor for feedback.”
What do you love most about working at Genius?
It’s not just the work itself that gives Ilia the enthusiasm to succeed in his role. The opportunities to learn and hone skills are also a fundamental factor in choosing to pursue a career with Genius Sports.
“I’ve learnt many things in my relatively short career at Genius so far, including working with great people in a team to support each other. You develop problem solving skills and when you’re unsure about something your supervisor is always on hand to help. Of course, seeing lots of different sports and games in different countries also develops your understanding of the game.”
A vital aspect of Ilia’s drive for success is the highly positive office environment.
“The office in Sofia is easy to get to on public transport and it’s a very friendly place to work. There’s no toxicity and you even have places where you can relax and play games before you start your shift. The people I work with are a perfect match because they are nice people, not just sports fans. Outside of work, we have a group that regularly meet up socially.”
